Week #2 Eureka Moment

I work for a pharmaceutical company and we do a lot of blood draws and things of that nature in our facility. On friday we were having a refresher meeting on how to correctly store and discard new and used needles. While we were watching this presentation the lady giving it was talking about HIV. What caught my attention was that woman are just as likely if not more likely to be infected with HIV than men yet we still continue to represent HIV as a mans disease, meaning that woman need to be careful about the men they are sleeping with because they could be transmit HIV. There is not problem with woman being careful about who they are sleeping with but in recent years we should be telling men to watch out as well. I am myself am guilty of believing that it was mostly men that were carriers until i was shown the numbers in the meeting. Roughly 1 in 11 people are infected with HIV 58% of which are female so why are we still representing this as a mostle male dominant disease? Shouldnt we be changing our warning to extend them to everyone?
